Angel Biscuits (Shalene)

1 Tbsp yeast ½ cup warm water 1 Tbsp sugar Mix yeast, warm water, and sugar together. Set aside. 5 cups flour 2 Tbsp sugar 1 Tbsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp salt ¾ cup shortening 1 ½ cups buttermilk Mix dry ingredients together and cut in shortening. Add yeast mixture and buttermilk. Mix well for 3 minutes. Roll out on a flat floured surface about 1 – 1 ½” high. Bake at 375° for 20 minutes or until golden brown on top and biscuits are done throughout. (1/2 the recipe, for smaller families.
